Why People Are Choosing Sacramento in 2025 🌟
Growing up in the greater Sacramento area, I’ve watched this place change tremendously. After 22 years as a broker and nearly five decades as a resident, I’ve seen firsthand why so many people are choosing to make Sacramento their home. Let me walk you through the six biggest reasons people are moving here.
1. Housing Affordability 💰
When you look at California as a whole, the median home price at the end of 2024 was around $831,000. In the Bay Area, that number jumps to $1.2–1.3 million. But here’s the good news:
-
Sacramento County: $595,000
-
El Dorado County: $670,000
-
Placer County: $660,000
That’s a significant difference. You still get great value here depending on where you buy, and that’s one of the biggest draws for families and individuals relocating.
2. Job Opportunities & Economic Growth 💼
We’ve seen huge growth in jobs across multiple sectors. Companies like Solidigm moved their global headquarters to Rancho Cordova, Bosch is building a chip facility in Roseville, and Samsung is creating a $1.5 billion life science research park at UC Davis.
Add in Sacramento’s strong government, healthcare, construction, and tech sectors, and it’s no wonder people are drawn here for new opportunities.
3. Proximity to Amazing Destinations 🚗✨
Sacramento’s location is hard to beat. In just a short drive, you can:
-
Reach Lake Tahoe in about 2 hours. ⛰️
-
Visit Napa Valley in under 2 hours. 🍷
-
Explore the Bay Area and coastal towns like Half Moon Bay. 🌊
-
Hike the Auburn trails or enjoy El Dorado County wineries. 🌲
If you love the outdoors, wine tasting, or quick weekend getaways, this is an unbeatable place to live.
4. Farm-to-Fork Lifestyle 🥗
Our region has over 7,800 farms covering 1.5 million acres of farmland. That means local restaurants have fresh, seasonal ingredients year-round. The Farm-to-Fork Festival held each year on the Tower Bridge is a celebration of this movement — and it’s one of my favorite things about living here.
5. Suburban Feel with Options for Everyone 🏘️
Not everyone wants the hustle of city life. Sacramento offers the best of both worlds. You’ll find suburban communities like Auburn, Loomis, Fair Oaks, Carmichael, El Dorado Hills, and Folsom that give you more space and a quieter pace — while still being close to downtown. There’s truly something for everyone.
6. Quality Education 🎓
Families moving here love the schools. Districts like Rocklin, Folsom-Cordova, Roseville, Elk Grove, and El Dorado Hills consistently rank well. Plus, Sacramento is home to Sac State and nearby UC Davis, which is ranked among the top public universities in the country. Education here is a huge draw for many families.
