8 EASY DIY IDEAS TO CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY
- Parades, fireworks, family vacations — you name it, July 4th weekend is always jammed packed with summer activities every family can take part in. But if you don't have anything planned yet and you're looking for some fun things you and your crew can do for the 4th of July, you're in luck! We've got some great ideas (many of them are free!) to help you celebrate America's birthday.
Read up on American Icons.
There are a ton of great books to read as an adult, but if you're looking for some kid-friendly options, we recommend the Little People, Big Dreams collection that features books on Maya Angelou, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Wilma Rudolph.
Have a backyard barbecue!
Fire up the grill and make some delicious food like potato salad, burgers, chicken, ribs, or veggie kabobs. For a more lively barbecue have some outdoor games and contests for everyone. This can be a great day-long celebration!\
Bake patriotic treats together
What better way to enjoy the holiday than by making delicious treats for the little ones and adults alike? These red, white, and blue baked goodies are a great start. The cookies are reminiscent of the fireworks you'll watch later on in the day as a family.
Have a hot dog eating contest.
This one is definitely for the adults, but kids can participate as judges. Recreate Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in your own backyard!
Visit a National Park or Monument.
There are many beautiful places to explore, and you can learn about the history of our country while you’re there.
Have a backyard movie night.Level up your standard movie night by setting up a screening — and some cozy seating — right out on your lawn, then picking out an All-American movie that's perfect for the holiday. Don't forget the popcorn!
Have a jam session.
It's no party without great music, so get some sing-a-long tunes going with your favorite patriotic songs on the guitar (or even just on the speakers). Belting out "Party in the U.S.A." is a must, obviously!
Watch (or Participate in!) a Parade
Many municipalities across the country have plans to do traditional Fourth of July activities, like parades and fireworks displays. Check your town or city's website for specifics. And if the show is on, set your alarm to make it there early to get prime viewing spots.
Our Independence Day is a great opportunity to round up our family members and enjoy activities together! We hope that you get this time to enjoy and celebrate being an American! Good luck with your planning and we hope you will have a great time!!!
